NIGER

INTERSOS INTERVENTION

In Niger we guarantee training sessions on the transmission and prevention of coronavirus in particular to minors, and sessions of remote psychological support. We have developed psycho-educational tools for children and families, strengthened the protection committees of children and women and implemented awareness-raising activities on the virus for children. We work on the installation of water points for hand washing in different schools.

CONTEXT

In Niger, the number of infections has decreased, isolation and treatment centers have been identified, as well as a laboratory for testing. The mission promptly adopted security measures and readjusted ongoing projects to new anti-COVID-19 procedures. At regional level, the situation is marked by the volatile security context, which keeps humanitarian workers in an area of reduced mobility. The state of emergency is still in force in the regions of Tillabéry, Tahoua and Diffa with the imposition of armed escorts. Humanitarian aid workers do not take them but have to provide the weekly planning of their movements in the region. Crime remains a problem, and is on the rise in some regions, particularly in major cities and border areas (Agadez, Maradi, etc.) exposing humanitarians to several risks. Despite this, we continue to guarantee activities in the Agadez humanitarian center. Activities are also restarting in Niamey.
