BURKINA FASO
INTERSOS INTERVENTION
After the spreading of COVID-19, the protection activities in Dedougou have included sensitizations training/activities and distribution of leaflets and washing kits. In Région du Nord, Région de la Boucle du Mouhoun and Région de l’Est, the target of the protection activities, which also includes COVID-19 related activities, are the internally displaced people. Awareness-raising sessions on the barrier measures of COVID-19 were held. Leaflets with images on the do’s and don’ts were distributed as awareness campaigns. Protection monitoring has shown that the populations have access to information on barrier measures and are aware of the pandemic’s ability to spread.

CONTEXT
Burkina Faso has a very fragile national health system, which limits the implementation of prevention and response measures. Medical care is reduced due to the closure of health facilities in areas affected by severe insecurity, compromising the right to health for 1.6 million people. Ongoing displacement also represents an obstacle to pandemic control measures and increases the risk of the disease spreading to new areas. The school system has been suspended and inflation pressure, as result of the suspension of food circulation and raw material supply chains, will make the country at risk of food insecurity in a time of strong social tension. The curfew remains in place in several regions of the country, those in which multiple cases of contagion are recorded. Attention to the spread of the pandemic has eased efforts to contain armed groups and protect the population. With the curfew and quarantine imposed, many people have lost their revenues.
