Salah, a Druze, has a brother and three older sisters, but he is the only stateless person in his family. When he was born, his father was in prison, while his mother, forced to support five children as a domestic worker, was unable to follow the bureaucratic process necessary to register the birth. Due to his statelessness, Salah was only able to attend the first years of school (he is literate), has no driving license, and has been forced to change jobs every three months because, once the probationary period is over, no one can hire him regularly.
Ten years ago, to receive surgery on his nose, he got to be admitted to a hospital using his brother’s health card.A few months ago, he married a Moroccan girl he met on Facebook. After eight years of exchanging web messages, he picked her up at the airport, arriving from Morocco, and they got married immediately. Now she is pregnant. Her child, as the son of a stateless person, will also be deprived of citizenship.
