We are calling for the end of the unprecedented killings of civilians that have so far included over 4,500 children in Gaza and over 30 children in Israel

Today, when the world is marking World Children’s Day as a remembrance of the UN Declaration of the Rights of the Child, we are calling for the end of the unprecedented killings of civilians that have so far included over 4,500 children in Gaza and over 30 children in Israel. The International Humanitarian Law is under direct and constant attack despite the “never again” promises. Civilian infrastructure, including homes, hospitals, schools, churches, and mosques, can not be the target of military offensives. The medical services in the Gaza Strip are reported to be on their knees, with thousands of sick and wounded, including children, suffering in inhumane conditions.

Humanitarian pause is not the answer to the tremendous suffering of 2.3 million civilians trapped inside Gaza. The only way to stop civilian deaths, enable unhindered provision of essential humanitarian assistance, and reestablish basic services such as fuel, electricity, and clean water – is by an agreement to a ceasefire now. All hostages must be unconditionally released, including 30 children currently held hostage. The hellish nightmare in Gaza must be put to an end.
