After the explosion in the port of Beirut on August 4, 2020, together with the European Union, INTERSOS has launched a programme to rebuild damaged houses and to support affected families.<\/span><\/h3>\n

Thanks to European Union funds,<\/a> in consortium with Acted<\/a>,\u00a0Concern<\/a>,\u00a0Lebrelief<\/a>,\u00a0SIDC<\/a>,\u00a0Arc-en-Ciel, <\/a>INTERSOS has launched a 6-month multi-sectoral project to bring assistance to individuals and families<\/strong> in the areas most affected by the explosion occurred at the Port of Beirut<\/a> on August 4, 2020<\/a> (primarily Karantina, Bourj Hammoud, Mar Mikhael, Jeitawi\/Rmeil), providing shelter rehabilitation<\/strong>\u00a0and protection services<\/strong>. This project is directly\u00a0assisting 9,950 people<\/strong>. The aim of the project is to repair and rehabilitate the residential units<\/strong> and to provide specialized protection and case management services<\/strong> to vulnerable and at-risk people affected by the blast, ensuring compliance with dignity and safety standards.<\/p>\n

Reconstruction<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

After the launch of the project, the rehabilitation works of the most heavily damaged houses<\/strong> are still on-going. Photos show the rehabilitation performed in a badly damaged house in Bourj Hammoud became unsafe after the explosion for the family living there. These interventions not only helped improve housing conditions<\/strong>, but had also allowed families to use their savings not for renovations but to meet basic needs (food, clothes, etc).<\/p>\n

Thanks to European Union funding, the INTERSOS Shelter team<\/em> was able to provide high quality repairs that were not only functional but also contributed to a good final aesthetic result, giving families a chance to really feel “at home”<\/strong>. The people helped were very pleased with the results and improvements made. Together with the European Union through this project INTERSOS, in collaboration with its partners, aims to rehabilitate over 200 housing units.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
