In the K\u00e9mo Prefecture, located in the heart of the Central African Republic, years of armed conflict have devastated local communities, undermining access to essential services and leaving women and children particularly vulnerable to violence and marginalisation. To address the growing need for protection, INTERSOS has launched a new project titled <\/span>\u201cImproving the protective environment and resilience of women, children at risk, and vulnerable persons in the K\u00e9mo Prefecture of the Central African Republic\u201d.<\/b><\/p>\n Funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation <\/span>(AICS)<\/b>, the project was officially launched on 14th November in Sibut during an event attended by local authorities from the K\u00e9mo Prefecture (Sibut, Ndjoukou, D\u00e9koua, Mala), and AICS representatives. The primary goal of the initiative is to ensure protection for women and children, while also promoting peaceful coexistence between internally displaced persons and host communities.<\/span><\/p>\n The project specifically aims to provide survivors of gender-based violence with access to appropriate psychological, socioeconomic, and legal services. At the same time, it seeks to strengthen peaceful coexistence and shared responsibility among displaced persons, people in transit, and host communities, with particular focus on women and children. During the launch event, projections and discussions helped participants better understand the project\u2019s objectives and expected outcomes.<\/span><\/p>\n Among the key expected results, the project plans to provide holistic support to <\/span>215 survivors of gender-based violence (including 118 women, 75 girls, 15 boys, and 7 men)<\/b>, distribute dignity kits to <\/span>300 survivors of sexual violence (200 women and 100 girls) <\/b>and other women and girls at risk, and provide socio-economic reintegration support for <\/span>120 vulnerable women and girls<\/b> through the empowerment of 4 women\u2019s associations. Additionally, <\/span>20 survivors <\/b>will be referred to quality legal services, and <\/span>40 service providers <\/b>will receive training on case management and survivor support.<\/span><\/p>\n Since 2023, INTERSOS has been operating in the K\u00e9mo Prefecture with the financial support of the Humanitarian Fund of the Central African Republic.
