Funded by the\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/uefafoundation.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">UEFA Foundation<\/a><\/strong>, the project is in cooperation with the area\u2019s municipality and a local organisation, and has supported the construction of a\u00a0<strong>new playing field<\/strong>\u00a0for the community of the\u00a0<strong>Barja<\/strong>\u00a0municipality.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fluid-width-video-wrapper\"><iframe id=\"fitvid0\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/5RL8njtD5qM\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"et_pb_text et_pb_module et_pb_bg_layout_light et_pb_text_align_left et_pb_text_1\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_text_inner\">\n<h3><strong>ALL CHILDREN HAVE THE RIGHT TO PLAY SPORT SAFELY<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The current deterioration of the economic crisis in Lebanon puts children and youth at greater risk of abuse, violence and exploitation. According to the recently published Emergency Response Plan, there is a growing trend of\u00a0<strong>increasing protection needs<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>among Lebanese and migrant children.<\/strong>\u00a0This creates risks of social tensions among different communities based on their perceptions of access to available services. The Child Protection sector in Lebanon reports increased needs for psychosocial support services for children and youth. Additionally, there are\u00a0<strong>growing numbers of children engaged in child labour.<\/strong>\u00a0Due to the closure of schools during the COVID-19 restrictions and the deterioration of the economic crisis, many children from Syrian refugee communities, but also Lebanese and migrants, are engaged in child labour to support their families in gaining income to allow meeting basic needs.\u00a0<strong>Children have the right to play and be simply children.<\/strong>\u00a0Access to sport guarantees more opportunities for a child\u2019s future. They met while training at the UEFA Foundation-funded football camp in Barja, where the poverty rate increased as the economic crisis escalated in 2019. Before playing on the grass of a real field, both had only ever kicked a ball in the street, among the alleys and popular buildings. \u201cEvery day after school we run here to the field, for us it has become our second home. We never imagined we could play football, train and team up with our new friends,\u2019 they tell us. Jamal plays in attack while Ismael is a midfielder. \u201cOur favourite player is the Argentine Lionel Messi,\u201d Jamal tells us, \u201cand we also support the same team: Paris Saint Germain\u201d. Since the rehabilitation work on the camp was completed in September, the two young players have not missed a single day of training.
