Context<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Central African Republic continues to face a profound and complex humanitarian crisis. Several areas of the country \u2014 particularly the prefectures of Vakaga and Haut-Mbomou \u2014 are highly insecure due to the presence of armed groups. This internal fragility has been compounded by the impact of the conflict in neighbouring Sudan, which has generated a constant flow of people fleeing to the north of the Central African Republic, exacerbating the vulnerability of host communities already lacking in resources. According to official figures, 2.4 million people (38% of the total\u00a0 )<\/span> in the Central African Republic are classified as extremely vulnerable: for them, basic emergency assistance is no longer sufficient to ensure survival.<\/span><\/p>\n

The situation remains highly volatile and marked by clashes that are taking a heavy toll on civilians, causing further forced displacement and hampering humanitarian access, particularly in the south-east.<\/span><\/p>\n

Added to this picture is an alarming protection crisis, exacerbated by deep-rooted inequalities and gender-based discrimination. This disparity translates into dramatic rates of gender-based violence: between September 2023 and August 2025, over 42,846 cases were recorded, 96% of which involved women and girls as victims, and 34% of which were rapes. INTERSOS\u2019 intervention<\/h2>\n

Throughout 2025, INTERSOS has been active in the Central African Republic through a multi-sectoral response combining Protection, Health, Nutrition and Emergency Response. Operating in various prefectures across the country, the organisation pursued a two-pronged approach: responding rapidly to new shocks caused by clashes and floods, whilst simultaneously strengthening the capacities of local communities to foster their resilience.<\/span><\/p>\n

Protection activities have been at the heart of INTERSOS\u2019s work. Through the management of safe spaces for women and children, our teams have provided specialist support to survivors of gender-based violence, offering medical care, psychological support and pathways to social and professional reintegration. Particular attention was paid to child protection, with interventions focused on the temporary reception of unaccompanied minors and legal support for obtaining birth certificates, an essential tool for ensuring children\u2019s access to fundamental rights. Support for education and the launch of vocational training courses for young people represented a direct investment in combating social exclusion in the most vulnerable areas.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the health and nutrition sector, INTERSOS ensured free access to primary care and reproductive health services, supporting local medical facilities. The fight against malnutrition was tackled through an integrated approach combining nutritional monitoring of children with training for mothers on proper nutritional practices. At the same time, in areas affected by new displacements, we intervened by providing emergency shelter and essential kits.
