In Bakudangba, a village in Haut Huelé, in the north of Democratic Republic of Congo, near the Southern Sudan border and the Central African Republic, going to school is extremely dangerous for a child.
He/she may be enrolled in the militias that devastated the area and that so many times devastated villages and abducted people, expecially children.
In Bakudangba, one of the villages where we operate, the school was destroyed in 2009. As the former principal of the school explained in the video...
The plague ravaging the Dem.Rep. of Congo (DRC) is called LRA, notorious acronymous for 'Lord Resistance Army', a militia led by the sadly famous leader Kony, that after decades of violence against civilians in northern Uganda, at the time of Christmas 2008 has moved in the northern DRC and started raids against civilian people. It's extremely difficult to estimate the composition and movements of this militia.
Currently the area where Bakudangba village is located is, unfortunately, in the 'operational' area of the LRA militia and subjects to its attacks.
The area is therefore highly risky.
Reconstructing the school has reduced the risk for students in the area, forced to travel long distances in the forest with high risk of LRA attacks.
This also more in general helps the restoration of educational basic services in the area.
The school costed € 30.000,
