Social Protection Team
Social Protection as a concept refers to a structure
that addresses the needs of peoples by reducing risks and creating
opportunities in the social, cultural and economic context.
INTERSOS’ main strategy on social protection
is community mobilization and self-reliance
to assist the communities in their way of recovery to cope with
their present state of vulnerability and to be the main actor in
the process. This strategy is also referred as community
based approach. Living with the people of concern and
coming up with solutions with the communities has traditionally
been a distinctive quality in INTERSOS’ work around the world.
INTERSOS Social Protection is made up of preventive
and responsive
- community services (including,
coordination of water, food, shelter, income generation, health,
security),
- dialogue initiatives among conflicting
parties,
- civil society strengthening with national
organizations
- non-formal education
- repatriation and reintegration
- psychosocial support
While working with entire community both displaced
and surrounding communities, INTERSOS pays special attention to
- children,
- gender,
- elderly,
- people with special needs
in camp, urban, rural, collective centers and
nomadic settings
