Mine Action Team

INTERSOS’ involvement in demining activities developed from our experience in humanitarian operations in post-war contexts where we are confronted with a large number of mine casualties. In these locations, mine contamination is a severe constraint to restart socio-economic life. INTERSOS became directly involved in the Mine Action efforts of the international community in 1997 by establishing the Mine Action Unit (MAU). Today, Mine Action is an essential part of the Program Unit where INTERSOS has increasingly been focusing on

  • Mine Clearance
  • Mine Risk Education
  • Victim Assistance
  • Advocacy
  • Training

Intersos Mine Action regularly attends the most important Mine Action fora, including the UNMAS Steering Committee, the Programme Directors and Advisors Meetings as well as the Standing Committees and the Member States Meetings of the Ottawa Process.

INTERSOS MA teams, accredited by the relevant MACs (Mine Action Centres), have implemented demining actions in Angola, Bosnia, Serbia, Kosovo, former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iraq.
