PROGRAM UNIT
The INTERSOS Program Unit oversees all the operations
conducted in the missions under two main geographic areas of focus;
Asia & Mediterranean and Africa, as well as sectoral themes
such as Mine Action, Water & Sanitation, Social Protection and
Emergency Response. Lead by the Executive Director, the geographical
areas are coordinated by two Area Coordinators supported by various
Desk Officers and Geographic Administrators.
The Program Unit emphasizes that all activities have
the main focus of meeting the basic needs of the affected populations
and creating platforms to foster dialogue among divided communities,
as well as working for the necessary and desired level of capacity
for self-help. This process is assured through close cooperation
with local and international partners by means of training and capacity
development, campaigns, awareness raising activities, and support
for community initiatives and involvement.
As the organization operates in different parts of
the world and cultural contexts, INTERSOS highlights the importance
of understanding the social, cultural, political and economic context
in which it operates, and develops programs and projects respecting
the cultural values and norms of the countries of operation. Cooperation
and interaction with different actors, especially with local civil
society organizations is considered an essential part of its field
work.
