Emergency Response Team
Since it was founded in 1992, INTERSOS has
established itself within the Italian NGO community as an organization
focused on emergency response.
The aid workers who initially led our operations, with the limited
resources at their disposal, obtained results which were greatly
appreciated by beneficiaries and donors in Somalia, the Great Lakes
region, the Balkans, Honduras and Nicaragua.
The capacity to know how to efficiently manage complex, wide-scale
emergencies, demonstrated during the Kosovo crisis, has not only
helped INTERSOS acknowledge its potential as an organization, but
has also pointed to the need to develop permanent tools to respond
to humanitarian emergencies.
During the past few years, we have worked on elaborating methodologies
and procedures for the organization, as well as identifying the
material and human resources needed for our operations in acute
crisis situations. Our goals have been to improve the response capacity
for new emergencies while at the same point acting as a reference
point and support tool in those countries in which INTERSOS is already
working.
Meanwhile, INTERSOS continued to carry out important operations
in India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq, Liberia, Chad, Darfur, Sri
Lanka and a return to Pakistan to address the needs of earthquake
survivors.
In order for INTERSOS to return basic living conditions and dignity
to people in the contexts where we work, the organization focuses
on developing relationships with beneficiaries that form the basis
of regaining a peaceful environment and development in these areas
and a return to normal living conditions.
